Ever since I was a kid growing up in Ogden Utah back in the early 80's, I've been fascinated by the Spanish bullfight. I even searched out books on bullfighting at the Weber County library, where I found and read "Death in the Afternoon" by Ernest Hemingway. I'm probably the only kid in Utah to have ever read that book. Now here we are 40 years later and I still enjoy learning about and keeping up with the bullfights.

Plaza Monumental de Barcelona
The Plaza de Toros Monumental is located at Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 749, in Barcelona, Spain. This was one of the bullrings of Barcelona and was inaugurated in 1913 as the Plaza de El Sport. Almost immediately after opening, it was remodeled and expanded to reopen in 1916 as Plaza De Toros Monumental De Barcelona, or “La Monumental”. The original design was in the Noucentista architectural style thanks to architect Manuel Joaquim Raspall i Mayol. The expansion, designed by Ignasi Mas i Morelli and Domenec Sugranes i Gras, was strongly influenced by Mudejar and Byzantine styles. Plaza De Toros Monumental De Barcelona seats 19,582 within 26 rows of seats, boxes, and bleachers.
Bullfights at Plaza De Toros Monumental De Barcelona are no longer held as bullfighting was banned in Catalunya on July 28, 2010; however, the bullfighting museum at Plaza De Toros Monumental De Barcelona offers an interesting and thorough bullfighting history. Circuses and musical events at Plaza De Toros Monumental De Barcelona were traditionally held during the off-season and are still occasionally held. Past performers at Plaza De Toros Monumental De Barcelona include Bob Marley, the Rolling Stones, and Dire Straits. The most notable concert at Plaza De Toros Monumental De Barcelona was performed by the Beatles on July 3, 1965.
