Ever since I was a kid growing up in Ogden Utah back in the early 80's, I've been fascinated by the Spanish bullfight. I even searched out books on bullfighting at the Weber County library, where I found and read "Death in the Afternoon" by Ernest Hemingway. I'm probably the only kid in Utah to have ever read that book. Now here we are 40 years later and I still enjoy learning about and keeping up with the bullfights.

Diego Ventura en Almería

Never seen this before, grapes given to the bullfighter while taking his vuelta al ruedo.

I'll have to ask someone once I get over to Spain the significance of giving bullfighters things like grapes, asparagus, roosters, etc. while they are taking their lap around the bullring.

Question about the term torista, or torismo

Here is something that I see or hear a lot but I have no idea what they are talking about. The term "torismo" or "torista". So I know the translation to English, tourism or tourist, but I haven't a clue on how it translates over to bullfights.

From the article below "el carácter torista de la feria".

Hmmm..... you got me on that one.

Emiliano Gamero confirmation in Portugal

I guess I've never seen a confirmation of a rejoneador before because I did not know this is how it's done, a banderilla passed behind the back?

Interesting.

And, are all confirmations of rejoneadores done in Portugal since that is where bullfighting from horseback originated?

So many questions.

Entrar a matar

Morante en San Luis Potosí kneeling as he lines up the bull for the kill. Not sure if there is a benefit to this or if he is just trying something different.

Antonio Ferrera has been trying something different lately by slowing walking towards the bull as he lines up for the kill. Maybe Morante wants to try something different too.

I don't know.

Cayetano en Baeza ayer

Question: What is the significance of the handful of vegetation?

I've seen numerous photos of this, matadors taking their victory lap around the plaza with a handful of some type of plant. It doesn't seem to happen in the biggest plazas, like Madrid or Sevilla, but it seems to happen a lot in smaller plazas.

I'm not sure of the significance.

Roosters

Question: Roosters?

I've always had a question about this but can never seem to find an answer.

I've seen toreros walk around the plaza with a rooster in hand. I don't know the significance but I'd love to know.

Toreando con la montera puesta

Question: Why on the very rare occasion does a matador not take off his montera while working the bull with the muleta?

I've seen this a few times, the matador working the bull with the muleta but while still wearing the montera.

I'm not sure the significance, why they would leave it on while almost all the time the matador takes it off before going out with his muleta.
